Polvo's is the hand's down best Mexican food in Austin for any price. This is my first choice for our out-of-town guests to experience south 1st Street and authentic eclectic Austin. Not condos and chains. Near misses: Jovita's and Guerro's.
With the abundance of Tex-Mex in Austin, it is hard to come by one that is great. I can surely say Polvo's has great food and a wonderful atmosphere. You are served with only chips and no salsa because it is your duty to walk inside and choose from the island what kind of salsa you will be indulging in today. And for the people watching their carbs, there is a spiced vegetable melody that is great to snack on before your food. I personally love the chicken Fajitas al Guajillo, they are not your average fajitas! Served with mushrooms, sundried peppers and a mixture of nuts, they are great. Don't forget the mexican martinis either!
