Job Opening: Legal Assistant





Attorney practicing family law (80%) and personal injury (20%) since 1989 in office located in downtown Austin seeks full-time legal assistant.



Skills/Experience Needed:



1. Excellent organizational skills and compulsive attention to detail.



2. Ability to manage a full docket of cases, including communicating with clients, drafting pleadings, creating and responding to discovery requests, obtaining medical records, filing documents at the courthouse, crafting correspondence, attending depositions and hearings, and maintaining client database for cases and marketing. Take incoming calls, schedule appointments, greet clients, gather client information.



3. Multitasking: able to handle frequent interruptions or disruptions and return back to the task at hand.



4. Good bookkeeping skills.



5. Good, calm, helpful demeanor over the phone and in person with clients and other contacts, including people dealing with the emotional crises associated with divorce or personal injury.



6. Must be fluent in Spanish, both written and verbal.



7. Must be motivated and self-starting and able to anticipate work needed to be done in particular cases and be proactive as well as flexible and receptive to instruction from attorney and his way of doing things.



8. Two years or more of family law legal experience. Personal injury law experience a plus.



9. Ability to touch-type at a reasonable speed.



10. Familiarity with Microsoft Office and with Microsoft Word in particular.



11. Superior oral and written communication skills, including composition, spelling and punctuation.



The job is demanding, hectic and at times stressful. It can also be fun, rewarding and interesting. The pay is commensurate with experience.
